Petit village de France

Happy New Year!
I am starting the New Year with a French Theme, I have been working on a series of paintings of France for the last year . I will have a show in April in Portsmouth NH, a lot of the small ones are studies for the larger ones , some I have done on Location with every trip to France I have taken in the last three years visiting my family.
This little village painting is where I have spend many of my vacations , located in the Sologne region of France in the Loire valley .

Kingfield barn

Second day with my new flat screen and I don't like it any better than yesterday!
This is a one of many wonderful Maine barns I have painted over the years, this one is located in a small town in the Western Mountains. It was a quick sketch in watercolor, I just wanted to capture the dark sky and some rays of sun, I think I did just that!

Cutler fishing shack

What a day today! My husband gave me a new flat screen monitor and my son installed it today with a bit of disappointment, all my graphics look distorted and the colors washed out ,we must have spend four hours trying to adjust it . I guess it will take some use to it or I will put the old one back. Because the lack of painting time today, I am posting a summer plein air painting, I often paint in this small Maine coast village.

Last spring I had gone to Cushing, Maine and visited the Olson house where Andrew Wyeth had painted the famous Christina's world painting , I took a lot of pictures that day, the house was empty and too early for tourist so I had the opportunity to walk around and really feel a connection to his work , I have become a real fan of the Wyeth family.
this is a small 5x7 watercolor of me looking in through the other side of the house .

I had some work done in my house, I was checking in the progress ,when the contractor an his partner said to me , did you paint for your blog today?

I decided to stop all cleaning that I was doing around the house and started painting , I wanted to show them a finish painting before they went home. They are both from Europe so I picked a French scene of a winter village , the village is very familiar to me , I used to spend my summers there when I was a child , last February I was there when a light coat of snow had fallen .

So here it is !

8x10 oil on canvas.

I actually painted this last March , I was coming home from Boston, the sun was going down and all along the highway going North these similar scenes of shadows and reflections in the icy streams were repeating , the next day I painted this scene from memory.

The weather has been so great here in New England, I figured by now I would be painting snow scenes ! but I am not complaining because I know the snow will come. Finely was able to paint this afternoon and it felt good! You have fun when you go away but you pay later with all the chores you have to do. I am still on the South Carolina scenes so it came easy to paint a Low Country landscape, I have found over the years if you don't start working on places you just have been visiting, you later loose the interest and motivation.
Here is a Low Country scene of a tree with Spanish moss.

I am back from Maryland after an 9 hours drive, the weather was beautiful all day. The hills and mountains of Pennsylvania were just what an artist would want to paint with it's rust colors and purple mountains. The sun set was also a painters dream and to top all this as we are driving North the moon appeared over the horizon as the biggest gold looking moon I ever saw. All while driving I experienced many paintings in my head ,hope I can remember them all!

I will be traveling to Maryland from Massachusetts in the next few days, I always enjoy driving by the beautiful farmlands of Pennsylvania and the Amish countryside. Hope to come back with lots of ideas for my painting.
Welcome to my studio who happens to be a 1885 Gingerbread house in Pepperell MA.
I was painting and teaching classes in my studio for over 22 years. With the time many of my students have gone on to be professionals in the art field from Art teachers, designers , architect and much more .
I decided to take a break from teaching , and share my work with a new audience,
Being versatile and prolific I am up for a new challenge.
enjoy my new journey and my new paintings.
